Cyberattacks to grow amid neural networks development — expert
Director of Positive Technologies expertise center Alexey Novikov expects the number of cyber-incidents will grow by about 20% in the next year of 2024
ST. PETERSBURG, November 2. /TASS/. Hackers are increasingly more using neural network technologies and this may result in a 20% growth of cyberattacks in 2024, director of Positive Technologies expertise center Alexey Novikov told TASS.
"We see the incremental growth of successful cyberattacks every year. For example, it totaled 20.8% in the year of 2022. We registered the number of successful attacks over three quarters of the present year of 2023 that is comparable with the annual figure two years ago. We also expect the number of cyber-incidents will grow by about 20% in the next year of 2024. Criminals start proactively use neural network technologies in attacks. This significantly simplifies either mass phishing campaigns or targeted attacks," the expert said.
The continuing strained geopolitical situation will influence growth of hacking attacks, Novikov said. "This will influence the activity of hacktivists and groups engaged in cyber-spying. In view of significant political developments we also expect growth of attacks with the use of social engineering exploiting headline news hooks and surging attacks of hacktivists," he added.
