The Lithuanian customs department will pay particular attention to cargo classification

VILNIUS, October 31. /TASS/. Lithuania has tightened control of transit cargos traveling to third countries through Russia and Belarus, the customs department of the Baltic republic reported.

"To prevent circumvention of sanctions, from November, Lithuania tightens control over cargos imported to its territory and further through the Russian Federation and Belarus, the recipients of which are located in third countries," the statement says.

The department will pay particular attention to cargo classification.

"The customs department recommends describing the declared goods in as much detail as possible, indicating their properties and attaching documents about this," the department noted.

In July, Vilnius introduced stricter rules for the transit of goods through Russia and Belarus. The government has established 57 groups of goods, for which a declaration from the manufacturer is required during transit. The manufacturer should indicate the seller (exporter) of his products and the buyer in a third country with a promise not to unload, reload or resell the goods when traveling through the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

The groups of goods in respect of which this procedure was introduced in particular include electronics and their components, electrical transformers, chemical materials that can be used in the production of electronics, electric motors, generators, and telephones. Lithuanian authorities consider them to be classified as dual-use.
