Share of Mir card transactions in Russia growing in H1 2023 — Central Bank
The use of contactless methods of payment continues growing, the regulator noted
MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. The share of the national payment system Mir as part of total transactions within Russia gained 8.1 percentage points and reached 49.4%, according to draft guidelines of Russian financial market development in 2024 and the period of 2025-2026 prepared by the Bank of Russia.
"The share of the national payment system Mir increased as part of the total amount of domestic transactions and reached 49.4% in early July 2023, which is 8.1 percentage points above 2022. The system also makes it possible to use the technology of contactless payment for purchases using smartphones," the document reads.
The use of contactless methods of payment continues growing, the regulator noted. In the first half of 2023, 23 bln transactions were made using contactless technologies to the amount of about 24 trillion rubles ($256.6 bln), which is 20% higher by quantity and 25% more by volume against the like period of 2022.
