Lithuania bans import of liquefied gas from Russia in any form
The ban will come into force from the beginning of November
VILNIUS, October 26. /TASS/. The Seimas (parliament of Lithuania) banned the import of liquefied gas from Russia in any form.
In total 111 deputies voted for the corresponding amendments to the law on natural gas, six abstained. Until recently, liquefied gas was still entering the republic on a limited scale.
"There are enterprises that are still importing liquefied gas from Russia, delivering it from Poland by tanker trucks. This should be prohibited," the initiators of the amendments noted.
The ban will come into force from the beginning of November.
The Lithuanian Energy Ministry has established that Cryogas M&T Poland, registered in Warsaw, purchases liquefied gas from Gazprom Export, a subsidiary of Gazprom, and imports it into Lithuania in tanks.
In March 2022, Lithuania banned imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia through the terminal located in the Klaipeda State Seaport. From April, 2022, such a ban applies also to supplies via pipelines. The exception is made only for transit to Kaliningrad.
