Rosatom plans to confirm materials service life of up to sixty years — executive
According to First Deputy CEO of Rosatom’s Science and Innovations Company Aleksey Dub, "it will enable reaching the 25% share of the nuclear power segment in the balance of the Russian Federation"
YEKATERINBURG, July 30. /TASS/. Scientific research of the Russian state corporation Rosatom under the fourth federal project of the comprehensive nuclear science and technology development program will enable justifying the service life of new materials for looking-forward reactor technologies up to sixty years, First Deputy CEO of Rosatom’s Science and Innovations Company Aleksey Dub told TASS.
"The main area is to support the two-component nuclear power sector proper with structural materials. It will enable reaching the 25% share of the nuclear power segment in the balance of the Russian Federation on the one part, and on the other part - it will lead to our significant progress in implementing the so-called ‘closed fuel cycle,’ which will materially reduce the use of naturally occurring uranium. Our scientific research will make it possible to justify the service life of new materials for looking-forward reactor technologies up to sixty years," the executive said.
Efforts are underway not merely to create materials but also to develop the methodology making possible to have a significant boost to material selection processes.
