Hainan ships 1 million golden sea bream fry to Malaysia

This is the first batch of golden sea bream fry to be shipped overseas by Hainan in 2023

HAIKOU /China/, May 11. /TASS/. South China's Hainan province has sent a large batch of golden sea bream fry for export to Malaysia, intended for breeding and containing about 1 million specimens. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the ship sailed from the port of Xinjun, Lingshui Li Autonomous County and is to deliver the cargo to the Malaysian island of Kukup. This is the first shipment of the said seafood to Hainan overseas in 2023, the article stated.

"Our products have been recognized in foreign markets, there are excellent prospects for exporting fry to some Southeast Asian countries - Malaysia, Singapore," said Li Wei, director of foreign trade affairs at supplier Hainan Chenhai Aquatic Products. He said customs in the city of Sanya (south coast of the island) creates favorable conditions for increased sales abroad.

Golden sea bream lives in the water areas of South China, and in Hainan they are bred in special cages. In recent years, the province has developed a well-developed industrial structure that makes it possible to grow this seafood on an industrial scale and supply it to both domestic and foreign markets.
