Paks-2 nuclear plant should be built as quickly as possible — Hungary’s foreign minister
It is noted that Brussels has already understood that achieving energy security and Europe’s transition to green energy cannot take place without having nuclear power in the mix
BUDAPEST, April 11. /TASS/. The Hungarian government will endeavor to complete construction of the Paks-2 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in cooperation with Russia as soon as possible, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday after talks with Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear power corporation.
"We should endeavor to build the Paks-2 [NPP] as soon as possible, in spite of the various difficulties involved. This is because the sooner new [power generating] units are built, the sooner we will be safeguarded from absolutely crazy price fluctuations in the international energy market," Szijjarto wrote on his page in Facebook [banned in Russia, due to its ownership by Meta, which has been deemed extremist in Russia - TASS].
"Brussels has already understood that achieving energy security and Europe’s transition to green energy cannot take place without having nuclear power in the mix," the minister said. "We in Hungary are well aware that this nuclear power plant is needed for providing safe, affordable energy," he added.
