Russian foreign trade surplus down a third in January-March 2023 — statistics

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. The foreign trade surplus of Russia plummeted by almost 2.9 times year on year in January - March 2023 and stood at $29 bln, the Central Bank said on Tuesday.

The surplus of the balance of payment account in Russia dropped by more than 3.7 times in the first quarter of 2023 to $18.6 bln.

"The positive balance of the financial account of the payment balance was formed by growth of foreign assets of the Russian economy and the decrease of liabilities to nonresidents with the approximately equal volume", the regulator noted.
