ANKARA, April 7. /TASS/. Moscow and Ankara share the view that the unstable geopolitical situation confirms the necessity to create a gas hub, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following the talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday.

"We discussed the progress of the creation of a gas hub in Turkey to transport Russian hydrocarbons," he said. "We share the view that the unstable geopolitical situation confirms that the decision taken by our leaders on the creation of such a gas hub was correct," the minister added.

Speaking at the Russian Energy Week forum last October, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed creating a gas hub in Turkey and redirecting the volume of gas, the transit of which is no longer possible through the Nord Stream, to this hub. It may imply building another gas pipeline system and creating a hub in Turkey, through which gas will be supplied to third countries, primarily European ones, if they are interested, he said. Ankara took the initiative positively, stating that it had most of infrastructure for the creation of a hub and a gas trade center in Istanbul ready.
