Belgium freezes Russian assets worth 58 billion euros, says country’s Finance Ministry
The 10th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which was adopted on February 25, obliges European banks to inform their national regulators and the European Commission about the amount of blocked Russian funds on their balance sheets
BRUSSELS, February 27. /TASS/. Belgium’s Finance Ministry reported that the kingdom has frozen Russian assets totaling 58 billion euros, and also blocked transactions related to Russia to the tune of 191 billion euros. This is according to a statement published on the ministry’s website on Monday.
"The Treasury has frozen Russian assets worth 58 billion euros. That is the highest amount of all European member states. In addition, Russian financial transactions worth 191 billion euros were blocked," the statement says.
The 10th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which was adopted on February 25, obliges European banks to inform their national regulators and the European Commission about the amount of blocked Russian funds on their balance sheets. The European Commission intends to carry out, according to European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, an inventory of frozen assets, which the EU intends to confiscate and send to the needs of the restoration of Ukraine, as soon as the proper legislation is designed and adopted for this. Brussels is intensively working on its development.
