Price of Russian gas for Moldova may fall to $1,054 in February — Moldovagaz

CHISINAU, January 31. /TASS/. The cost of Russian natural gas for Moldova in February may drop from $1,230 to $1,054 per 1,000 cubic meters, Executive Board Chairman of Moldovagaz gas distribution company Vadim Cheban announced on Tuesday.

"In February, the preliminary purchase price of natural gas supplied by PJSC Gazprom to the Republic of Moldova, taking into account the calorific value, will be about $1,054 per 1,000 cubic meters," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Cheban recalled that the entire volume of gas coming from Russia is sent to consumers on the left bank of the Dniester, including for the production of electricity for the right bank.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrey Spinu said that due to a shortage of fuel from Russia, right-bank Moldova will be provided with gas from previously formed reserves, as well as partially buy the required volumes from European suppliers.

Since November 2021, gas tariffs in Moldova have soared by almost seven times. Currently, household consumers pay 29 lei ($1.5) per cubic meter for gas. Rising gas and food prices in Moldova stirred up protests of the opposition began, which is seeking early elections.
