The company also aims to breed about 2 billion oysters a year

HAIKOU /China/, November 26. /TASS/. Sanya, located on the southern coast of Hainan Island, built a marine farm that will annually supply about 2.5 billion fish fry to the market. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the new fish farm also plans to produce about 2 billion oysters each year. The total output of the project, which will create more than 100 jobs, will be about 500 million yuan (about $70 million).

"I hope we will be able to form a national-level breeding base for tropical seafood," said Zhao Lei, general director of the farm operator. He said the company is actively taking advantage of Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, which lists deep-sea marine projects as one of its research programs.

The facility is expected to become operational in 2023. It is also intended for scientific activities. The farm is expected to hatch fish fry, drawing resources from around the world to do so. According to Zhao Lei, the company plans to prepare a special program for tourists interested in fishing. "By doing so, we will solve the problem of low diversification of the local seafood breeding industry," he said.
