Electronic car parts production to be localized in 24 months — Rostec CEO

Rostec has plans to implement a range of important programs in the automotive industry

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Russia will manage to localize production of key electronic components within two years, CEO of the Russian state-run corporation Rostec Sergey Chemezov told TASS in an interview before the 15th anniversary of the company’s establishment.

Russian manufacturers are promptly shifting to direct cooperation with national suppliers of radio electronic products, the top manager said. "Owing to such active efforts, localization will cover the majority of critical electronic components as early as within the coming two years," Chemezov noted.

Russian industry has made major progress in import substitution in aviation, medicine, power machine-building, electronics, and other segments, he said.

Rostec has plans to implement a range of important programs in the automotive industry. Avtovaz has resumed work on new projects based on the Lada Vesta platform. "A crossover is being prepared on its base, which will be put into the production line in 2025. Meanwhile, a new family of compact cars on another platform will appear in 2024 - this will be a car close in terms of its standard size with the Lada and having three body options: a sedan, a station wagon, and a Cross version station wagon," the top manager added.
