Sanya is setting up a cultural center with a museum and an archive in the city

HAIKOU /China/, November 3. /TASS/. Sanya city on the southern coast of Hainan island will form a developed network of social and cultural infrastructure in the next few years, which will cover the peripheral agrarian zone in addition to the urbanized areas. This was announced by the Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism.

"We will ensure the timely delivery of facilities on time, we will purposefully improve the system of socio-cultural services," the department said as quoted by the Sanya Daily newspaper in connection with the active implementation of a number of projects that are expected to significantly improve the living standards of local residents and make Sanya more convenient for tourists visiting the city.

According to the newspaper, a cultural center is being created in Sanya for this purpose, which will house a museum and an archive of the city. The construction of a modern sports complex and swimming pool is being accelerated. These facilities should become an important addition to the already existing architectural structures - the city library and art museum. At the same time, work continues on the development of social and cultural infrastructure in districts.

"It will become a striking hallmark of our city in the near future," the department said in a statement. "The formation of the basic socio-cultural system at the level of the city, its districts and rural settlements will allow us to pass the final steps on the way to a real breakthrough in the sphere of development of culture of the masses".

The local government said the past 10 years have been a particularly important period for the renewal of Sanya's cultural image. One major achievement, as noted, was the completion in 2021 of a 86,000 sqm international stadium, which can accommodate 45,000 spectators.

Sanya is China's leading resort, home to more than 1 million people. In 2021, its gross product reached 83.5 billion yuan (about $13.2 billion), an increase of 12.1%. The city' s average annual temperature is 25.4 degrees centigrade and its coastline is more than 200 kilometers long. There are 19 bays and about 40 recreational islands in the surrounding waters, all of which enable the local government to succeed in developing yacht tourism and beach vacations.
