Russia and Belarus may lift restriction on number of flights between countries
According to the current agreement, the quota on the Moscow-Minsk route is more than 60 flights per week
MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Russia and Belarus may lift the restriction on the maximum number of flights between countries, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency announced on its website on Wednesday. The agency cites the correspondence between the aviation authorities of the two countries.
In a letter from Russia Transport Ministry dated October 11, Dmitry Stepanko, Acting head of the Department of State Policy in the Field of Civil Aviation, suggests that Belarusian colleagues remove restrictions on flights between Moscow and Minsk or extend existing agreements on the number of flights until the end of the 2023 winter season.
In response, his Belarusian colleague Artem Sikorsky considered it appropriate "at this stage to adhere to the agreements reached", but "to discuss removal of restrictions on flights between Russia and Belarus at the site of the "Transport Week" in the period from November 14 to 19."
Quotas for the number of flights between countries are established by the air units of the two countries on the principle of parity, and are fixed by agreements on air traffic. However, only flights from Moscow are subject to quotas, from regions to other countries they are operated without taking into account quotas. According to the current agreement, the quota on the Moscow-Minsk route is more than 60 flights per week.
