Russian ruble used to make 72% of EAEU payments in 2021 — Russian PM

Mikhail Mishustin emphasized that "the Russian ruble remained the major settlement currency and was used for 72% of payments"

YEREVAN, October 21. /TASS/. The trade turnover of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) reached its all-time high last year, while the Russian ruble remained the primary currency used for settlements, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Friday at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

"The dynamics of the trade turnover of the EAEU states reflects the positive influence of integration activities. The volume of mutual trade between the states of the union over the last year exceeded $73 bln, reaching a record high for the whole history of our association. This is almost 33% more than in 2020. As for food products and agricultural raw materials, the growth here was around 21%. The physical volume of mutual deliveries increased by 11%," Mishustin said.

He emphasized that "the Russian ruble remained the major settlement currency and was used for 72% of payments."

According to Mishustin, the EAEU countries generally continue to build a harmonious system of cooperation in all areas of the Union's activities on the basis of consensus, respecting the viewpoints of each state, in order to improve the quality of life for its people and create the most welcoming business environment.
