Economic development ministry says working on increase in Russian grain export quota

It was said earlier that the government was working on changing the grain export quota because of heavy yield

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. The Economic Development Ministry is working on the issue of increasing the Russian grain export quota within the framework of the customs-tariff subcommittee, a source in the ministry told TASS.

"The Agriculture Ministry’s initiative has been received. The issue is being developed within the framework of the customs-tariff subcommittee," the source said.

Earlier on Wednesday Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said the Russian grain export quota might total 25.5 mln tons in 2023, including 0.5 mln tons from the Far East. The annual quota for grain exports from Russia comes into force on February 15 and remains in force until June 30. The wheat quota in 2022 equals 8 mln tons, while the quota for rye, barley and corn amounts to 3 mln tons in total.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said earlier the government was working on changing the grain export quota because of heavy yield.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development reported the measure was aimed at ensuring the food security within the country, as well as limiting the growth of domestic prices for basic grain crops, which could lead to an increase in consumer prices for end products in Russia and in the EAEU countries. Russia’s grain harvest is expected at 150 mln tonnes this year, including 100 mln tonnes of wheat.
