On September 11, the sixth and final power unit was shut down at the nuclear facility amid targeted shelling by Ukrainian militants

MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Authorities in the Zaporozhye Region are not planning to recommission the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant any time soon, Acting Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said on Wednesday.

"The nuclear reactors have not been restarted yet and we are not planning to restart them any time soon. The power plant is currently faced with no threat. It has been in a cold standby mode," Balitsky told Rossiya-24 TV. The area around the nuclear facility has been shelled more than 30 times daily, yet the background radiation is normal, he added.

Earlier, Renat Karchaa, an adviser to the CEO of Rosenergoatom, said it was too early to consider recommissioning the power units at the Zaporozhye station, since uninterrupted electricity supplies were needed for that.

Earlier on Wednesday, the power plant was disconnected from external power supply for a second time in the past five days and had to rely on diesel generators for less than an hour before the power supply was restored.

On September 11, the sixth and final power unit was shut down at the nuclear facility amid targeted shelling by Ukrainian militants.
