Investments in industrial and tech parks at Azovstal site seen at $831 mln — authorities
Andrey Shpilenko clarified that part of the funding will be requested from the Russian government
DONETSK, October 11. /TASS/. The investments in creation of an industrial park, a tech park, an eco-park and a transport and logistics center on the territory of Azovstal plant in Mariupol are estimated at 53 billion rubles ($831 mln), Andrey Shpilenko, head of the Donbass Development Corporation, told TASS.
"We calculated the amount [of investments] by comparison - we looked at our best sites on the average investment per hectare, based on best practices, the cost per square meter of industrial buildings. The required investment is 53 billion rubles. This applies to the entire site, all four objects," Shpilenko said.
He clarified that part of the funding will be requested from the Russian government. The second source is the sale of material reserves that were located on the territory of Azovstal in the form of metal, iron, slag dumps.
"We need to conduct an audit here. This will be possible after demining, but the lion's share of the funds will be raised after the sale of these products. We will invite companies that will sell products, lay down profit margins, and return part of the proceeds to the region, which will go to the development of the site," he explained.
Earlier, Shpilenko reported that the government of the Donetsk People's Republic had previously approved the creation of an industrial park, a tech park, an eco park on the territory of Azovstal in Mariupol, which would have preferences envisaged by the law of the Russian Federation. Also a transport and logistics center will be located on the site. Their construction should be completed within three years.
Mariupol is the largest city on the coast of the Sea of Azov, one of the key centers of metallurgy in Donbass and a major seaport. Fighting for Mariupol began on February 25.
On April 21, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the liberation of the city by the Russian armed forces and the People's Militia of the DPR.
