Russian diplomat suspects Denmark may know who is to blame for damage to Nord Streams
Maria Zakharova recalled that after leaks had been found on the natural pipelines on September 26, the Danish Maritime Service announced the establishing of a security zone for vessels covering five nautical miles and a kilometer-wide one for aircraft
MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. Denmark has been opposed to involving Russia in probes into the incidents with the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, which means it might know who is responsible for the sabotage, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday.
"Copenhagen assumes that the incident was not accidental but rather the result of deliberate actions and deems it necessary to conduct an international probe into the incident," the Russian diplomat said. "However, as Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod has said, Denmark is not keen to maintain dialogue on this issue with Moscow."
She said there was one explanation only - "that they might know who did it and, therefore, they don’t care about Moscow’s opinion, because the suspect has perhaps been exposed and it might be possible to discuss this with them or hold them responsible."
Zakharova recalled that after leaks had been found on the natural pipelines on September 26, the Danish Maritime Service announced the establishing of a security zone for vessels covering five nautical miles and a kilometer-wide one for aircraft. There are three Danish Naval vessels in the area now - a frigate, a patrol ship and an environmental management vessel, she said. "The Danish Energy Agency said there were no security risks for the population of adjacent islands," the Russian diplomat said.
