The law states that the use of the exclusive right to the results of intellectual activity, expressed in goods and identifications such goods are marked with, is not a violation

MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. The Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, adopted a law providing for legalization of parallel import of goods to the country at its meeting on Wednesday.

The law states that the use of the exclusive right to the results of intellectual activity, expressed in goods and identifications such goods are marked with, is not a violation. The law protects Russian companies that import goods without the permission of the right holder from possible civil, administrative and criminal liability.

"The law will reduce the surge in prices for imported goods caused by the actions of unfriendly countries," said Alexander Zhukov, member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy.

On Tuesday, the law was adopted by the State Duma, lower house of parliament. According to the conclusion of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, the adoption of the law will ensure both the interests of domestic consumers of products of foreign companies that have left the Russian market, and generally contribute to the development of the Russian economy in the context of the sanctions policy applied against Russia by unfriendly countries.

In early May, Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry published a list of more than 50 categories of goods that will be available for parallel imports. It included a variety of items: from plants to medicines, from soap to weapons. In terms of technology and electronics, the list includes products from such brands as Siemens, Panasonic, Apple, Intel, Samsung, Dyson, Electolux, GoPro, Asus, JBL, Logitech and many others. The largest Russian marketplaces - Wildberries, Ozon and Yandex.Market - announced that they are ready to work with goods imported under the parallel import pattern.
