HAIKOW /China/, June 21. /TASS/. A round-the-island road for tourists in southern China's Hainan province should be completed by the end of 2023. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the article, the project was approved by the provincial government in 2020. The volume of investments used in road construction reached 7.52 billion yuan (about $ 1.1 billion), accounting for 52.3% of the total planned capital investment.

The total length of this road will run for almost 1 thousand kilometers. It will pass through 12 cities and counties, including Haikou, Sanya, Wenchang and Qionghai. The route will be designed to allow tourists to see all the island's main attractions, scenic coves and bays, mountain ranges, national parks, and economic development zones. The total length of its uninterrupted section will be about 442 km. At the end of May, it was reported that the infrastructure already in place in Hainan meets the requirements for the use of electric cars along the entire length of the ring road.

The project is one of the key projects in the province's free trade port program. The road should become a Hainan landmark in its own right.
