Canada in search for ways to deliver Nord Stream equipment to Germany — minister

In Jonathan Wilkinson' words, it was important for Canada to observe the sanctions it had earlier imposed on Russia

OTTAWA, June 22. /TASS/. The authorities of Canada continue to negotiate with the German government in search for ways to deliver Nord Stream gas pipeline equipment undergoing repairs in the North American country, Canada Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson has told Bloomberg.

"We are talking to Germany, trying to find a pathway through which we can actually enable the flow of gas," Wilkinson said. "There may be different options that we can look at."

In his words, it was important for Canada to observe the sanctions it had earlier imposed on Russia.

"That being said, the intent of the sanctions was never to cause significant pain to Germany, which is one of our closest friends and allies. So we are very seized with this issue," the minister added.

Earlier this month, Gazprom announced that it had to lower natural gas supplies over the Nord Stream pipeline as some gas pumping units weren’t returned from repair by Siemens in due time. The German company said it was unable to ship the units from Canada because that country imposed sanctions on Russia. Siemens repairs these units only at its plant in Canada. Gazprom is currently using only 40% of Nord Stream capacity to ship gas.
