BRICS summit to give impetus to economic, security cooperation, says Russian envoy
The summit agenda has been drafted keeping in mind the current world developments
BEIJING, June 20. /TASS/. The BRICS group of leading emerging economies will discuss at a summit stronger cooperation in security, economy and the humanitarian sphere, Russia’s ambassador to China said in an interview with China Daily.
The summit meeting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, set to take place on June 23 via a video link, is expected to give an impetus to cooperation in three main areas - politics, security, economy and finance, cultural and humanitarian ties, Andrey Denisov said in the interview published on Monday. The leaders will outline basic areas of further cooperation, the diplomat added.
The summit agenda has been drafted keeping in mind the current world developments, he stressed. "The situation in the world has remained tense, while the group of five countries has been the true keeper of a multilateral system," the diplomat said.
BRICS countries have maintained contacts at international organizations, including the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, coordinating their views on key international issues, he said.
