Donetsk leader praises establishment of trade ties with Iran
Denis Pushilin added that the move had created opportunities for the republic to boost trade cooperation "not only with Iran but also with the entire Middle East via Iran"
MOSCOW, June 20. /TASS/. An agreement between the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Iran, signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, opens important opportunities, DPR Head Denis Pushilin said on Monday.
"What we view as important is the establishment of economic ties with Iran, as agreements on economic interaction were signed between the Donetsk People’s Republic’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and an Iranian trading house. We believe that it looks very promising. Given that Mariupol’s commercial port has already resumed operations - not at full capacity for the time being but it will happen in the near future - it opens new opportunities in terms of both exports and imports," he told the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
The DPR head added that the move had created opportunities for the republic to boost trade cooperation "not only with Iran but also with the entire Middle East via Iran."
Pushilin announced on June 17 that in accordance with the agreement, Iran would supply fruit, vegetables and construction goods to the DPR. Donetsk, in turn, plans to export metal products, cast iron, fertilizers, coal mining machines and tunneling systems.
