Lithuania introduces ban on goods transit to Kaliningrad after consultations with EC
The decision was made after consultation with the European Commission and upon its recommendations
LUXEMBOURG, June 20. /TASS/. A ban on the transportation of goods to the Kaliningrad region through Lithuania has been imposed after consultations with the European Commission and on its recommendations, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said on Monday before a EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg.
"Since June 17, sanctioned goods <...> can no longer be transported through Lithuania. This (ban on the transportation of goods in the Kaliningrad region via Lithuania - TASS) was made after consultation with the European Commission and upon its recommendations," he said. His statement was broadcast on the website of the European Commission.
Earlier, the governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov said that Lithuania’s railways company had notified the railways company of the Kaliningrad region that they would ban the transit from Russia to the region of the goods that are subject to EU sanctions imposed on Moscow.
