Supplies of Russian grain to world market require removal of sanctions — Kremlin

These are sanctions related to ship insurance, to impossibility of entering European ports for ships carrying grain

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. Supplies of Russian grain to international market require abolishment of direct and indirect sanctions against Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

When asked whether Moscow is negotiating the possibility of supplying Russian grain with other countries, he replied:

"You know the statement by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, who said that in order for Russian grain volumes to be delivered to international markets, it is necessary to lift the relevant sanctions that have been imposed, direct and indirect. [These are] sanctions related to ship insurance, to impossibility of entering European ports for ships carrying grain. All this significantly complicates the process."

"There are no substantive talks about this yet. Actually, traders are engaged, but they stumble upon this wall of restrictions," the Kremlin spokesman added.

Responding to the follow-up question about negotiations on grain supplies with Turkey, Peskov noted that it is "the Ukrainian aspect, Ukrainian grain," which is being discussed with Turkey and "the dialogue is being held on this matter."

"As for other areas, this is the topic for traders," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
