Imports of components for Russian IT equipment continue — ministry

Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev noted that the final assembly will take place entirely in Russia

MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. Imports of components for Russian IT and telecommunications equipment continue, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev said on Tuesday.

"Our goal is to help manufacturers of computer and telecommunications equipment, to create conditions. We see that components are still being imported and the situation is generally fine," the minister said. He also noted that the final assembly will take place entirely in Russia.

Earlier, Shadayev announced a decline in import duties on components for IT equipment. He also said that the industry is supported through preferential loans for imports.

Shadayev added that the ministry does not expect the return of large foreign IT manufacturers to Russia. "In the current situation, we should not wait for the return of large vendors and manufacturers. We will be glad to see them return, competition is a good thing. But we do not see any signals that anyone plans to come back," he said.

Earlier, companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Autodesk suspended their activities in Russia. Apple has stopped exports and suspended a number of services. Software supplier IBM has temporarily suspended activities in Russia.
