Sales of new cars and LCVs in Russia fall by 83.5% in May
According to the Association of European Businesses, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles amounted to 24,268 cars
MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. Sales of new passenger cars and LCVs (light commercial vehicles) in Russia in May 2022 fell by 83.5% year-on-year and amounted to 24,268 vehicles, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said in its report.
"In May 2022, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia decreased by 83.5% compared to May 2021 or by 123,110 sold units and amounted to 24,268 cars according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee," the statement said.
Meanwhile, the report noted that "Monthly AEB data does not include sales figures from BMW and Mercedes-Benz Rus, following BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz AG decisions to change the frequency of their sales data publication from a monthly to a quarterly basis."
According to the AEB, in January-May, 318,114 cars were sold in Russia, which showed a decline of 52% in annual terms.
Sales of Lada cars from the largest Russian manufacturer Avtovaz in May fell by 84% to 6,012 vehicles, 67,230 vehicles were sold in January-May (-58% in annual terms). Avtovaz ranked first in terms of car sales in May, according to the report.
South Korean company Kia ranked second, with sales in May falling by 81% to 3,600 vehicles, and in January-May - by 53% to 41,800 vehicles. Hyundai sales fell in May by 82% to 2,900 vehicles, and in January-May - by 48% to 37,000 vehicles.
