Number of DDoS attacks on Russia in 2022 will grow 30-fold — experts
This year we are witnessing a real cyber war, CEO of StormWall Ramil Khantimirov noted
MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. The number of DDoS attacks on Russian companies in 2022 will grow 30-fold compared to 2021 - tense political situation in the world being the main reason, as well as lower prices for cyberattack tools, press service of StormWall told TASS.
"StormWall experts analyzed the growth in the number of DDoS attacks from January to May 2022 and predicted that in 2022 the number of attacks on Russian companies will grow 30-fold in comparison with 2021," the press service said. The number of DDoS attacks on StormWall customers in Q1 of 2022 alone increased 50-fold compared to the same period last year, the press service explained.
"Currently, most attacks are launched by Internet hacktivists. There are many groups promoting DDoS attacks, and these groups have hundreds of thousands of members who are ready to attack Russian companies. Members of the groups are trained to launch attacks and are constantly given new targets. In the future, Internet hacktivists will launch more and more attacks on Russian companies," the company said.
The number of attacks will also grow due to the emergence of even cheaper tools, the company added. The average attack duration will increase tenfold, and its power in 2022 will also grow, experts explained.
"This year we are witnessing a real cyber war, and its scale will only grow. The worst thing is that even when this storm subsides, a large number of people will be trained to launch DDoS attacks and will have the tools to carry them out. Of course, the targets of these attacks will be different," CEO and co-founder of StormWall Ramil Khantimirov said.
