US fails to add Ukrainian topic to agenda of ESCSAP session — Russian foreign ministry

The 78th ESCAP session was held in Bangkok on May 23-27, its key topic was sustainable development of the Asia Pacific region after the pandemic and assistance in overcoming its consequences

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. The United States failed to add the topic of the developments in Ukraine to the agenda of the 78th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Russian foreign ministry said in a press statement on Friday.

"The United States’ and its allies’ attempts to add the Ukrainian topic to session’s work were not supported by the majority of its participants," It said.

According to the ministry, the session yielded a consensus declaration setting benchmarks for further cooperation between the countries of the region by topic clusters of the ESCASP’s mandate: environment protection and sustainable development, improving statistics, development of science and technologies, reductions of natural calamities’ risks, assistance to countries with specific needs.

"Russia was elected to the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT)," the ministry noted.

The 78th ESCAP session was held both virtually and in person in Bangkok on May 23-27. Its key topic was sustainable development of the Asia Pacific region after the pandemic and assistance in overcoming its consequences.
