Aeroflot buys out eight Airbus A330s from foreign lessors — airline
The aircraft were transferred to the Russian register
MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. Aeroflot airline has bought out eight Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft from foreign lessors, Aeroflot's press service told TASS.
"Eight A330 aircraft were purchased. The aircraft were purchased from foreign lessors as part of the fulfillment of contractual obligations. The aircraft were transferred to the Russian register. Ownership certificates were issued in the Russian Federation for PJSC Aeroflot," the company said.
In late April, the airline’s Board of Directors considered early buyout of aircraft. After that, Aeroflot announced the imminent opening of several flights on A330 aircraft (to the Maldives, Turkey and Uzbekistan).
On April 8, the European Union adopted an amendment to anti-Russian sanctions that allows leasing companies to sell aircraft in Russia to Russian airlines. As previously reported, this measure will allow European governments to let organizations accept payments from Russian companies that have received aircraft on financial lease under agreements concluded before February 26. Ownership of the aircraft can be transferred after lease payments are made.
