Existing risks in gas trading unacceptable for Russia — Putin

Transfer of payments for Russian gas supplies to Russian rubles is an important step to strengthen the country's financial and economic sovereignty, the Russian President stressed

MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. Risks arising when trading natural gas for dollars and euro unacceptable for Russia, President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting on the situation in the aviation sector.

"Risks of the existing state of affairs are certainly unacceptable for us, but if looking at the issue comprehensively, then transfer of payments for Russian gas supplies to Russian rubles is an important step to strengthen our financial and economic sovereignty," the head of state said.

In the situation when the financial system of Western states is used as a weapon, when companies from these states refuse to perform contracts with Russian banks, companies and individuals and when assets in dollars and euro are being frozen, there is no sense to use currencies of these countries, Putin stressed.
