Japan unveils luxury goods export ban against Russia
The list consists of over 20 goods
TOKYO, March 30. /TASS/. A forthcoming export ban on Japanese luxury goods to Russia will cover new and used cars priced above 6 mln yen ($49,200 at the current rate) in addition to other items, Japan’s Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.
These restrictive measures also target motorcycles priced over 600,000 yen ($4,900), grand pianos over 200,000 yen ($1,600), diving and skiing equipment, and headgear (except hard hats) with a price tag over 100,000 yen ($822).
This export ban on goods to Russia also applies to laptops, liquor, tobacco products, jewelry, perfumes and cosmetics priced over 40,000 yen ($326). These restrictions are also applicable to the export of marine engines and their spare parts priced over 1.3 mln yen ($10,600) along with automatic data processing devices valued over 40,000 yen ($326).
The list put together by the ministry consists of over 20 goods which among other things includes leather and fur goods, footwear, carpets, ceramics, glassware, watches [with the use of precious metals - TASS], and art and antique items. The ban will come into force on April 5.
In monetary terms, Japanese exports to Russia in 2021 stood at 862.4 bln yen ($6.9 bln). Cars and spare parts accounted for more than half of this figure.
