MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. A full-fledged agreement on a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran can be reached as early as next year, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said in an interview with TASS.

"The technical aspects of the issues can be resolved in a short time. Of course, the interval between the contracting parties can adjust the negotiation period. This may affect the overall duration of the negotiations, so if the contracting parties continue to meet regularly, we hope to achieve good results next year," he noted.

The Iranian diplomat noted that negotiations on the list of goods subject to the free trade agreement are already underway, and "several more rounds of negotiations are needed to complete the agreement."

"Over the past six months, they held many online meetings as part of the negotiations on a free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union on the chapters regarding the text of the free trade agreement between Iran and Eurasia. On November 2-3, in person negotiations took place in Yerevan between the teams of our country and five countries - members of the EAEU and the Eurasian Economic Commission," Jalali recalled.

The ambassador also pointed out that the temporary agreement on establishing a free trade zone between Iran and the EAEU was implemented in November 2019, and the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Moscow in January was aimed at accelerating its transformation into a full-fledged agreement.

Member-states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
