KIEV, March 13. /TASS/. Electricity supplies at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been resumed, Ukraine’s national nuclear power generating company Energoatom said on Sunday.
"Thanks to the efforts of Ukrenergo specialists, our nuclear and electricity experts, electricity supplies at the Chernobyl NPP were resumed today," it cited Ukrainian Energy Minister Gherman Galushchenko as saying on its Telegram channel. According to the company, now nuclear waste cooling systems will be operating routinely.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Wednesday that Ukraine had notified it about "power loss at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant" but said it sees "no critical impact on safety." It said that Kiev had notified it about the loss of control over the Chernobyl and Zaporozhye NPPs, which had been taken by Russian troops.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday that the situation at both nuclear power plants is controlled jointly by Russian servicemen, Ukrainian specialists, and the National Guard.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, its goals were denazification and demilitarization of that country.
