Germany’s Henkel halts all its investments in Russia — company
Henkel, however, is ready to continue to supply daily consumption products to Russia
BERLIN, March 4. /TASS/. German chemical and consumer goods company Henkel is suspending all its planned investments in Russia, the company said in a press release on its website on Friday.
"We fully comply with all sanctions against Russia and its government, and the financial sector. Beyond the sanctions, we will freeze all future investments in Russia, for example for site expansions. We have also stopped all advertising in state media and will cancel all sponsoring activities in Russia," said Henkel CEO Carsten Knobel as quoted by the press service.
Henkel manufactures adhesives, detergents, cosmetics and personal care products at 11 factories in Russia. There are about 2,500 workers in Russia. Henkel, however, is ready to continue to supply daily consumption products to Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. After that the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states announced that they would impose sanctions against Russian legal entities and individuals
Germany is currently witnessing numerous terminations of ties with Russian institutions and firms amid the events in Ukraine. Users of social networks report cases of aggression against Russians, as well as cases of making offensive inscriptions on the walls of Russian institutions.
