Hainan to host international tropical agricultural products fair in December

Some 2,000 enterprises from China and 15 other countries and regions of the world will display their products

HAIKOU /China/, December 8. /TASS/. The southern Chinese province of Hainan will hold the Hainan Winter International Tropical Agricultural Products Fair on December 16-19 in Haikou, the province's administrative center, Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

"We will try to make the fair an important platform to showcase agricultural brands, promote trade in tropical agricultural products and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in agriculture," the agency quoted He Qionmei, head of the provincial agriculture and village administration, as saying.

The exhibition area occupies about 100,000 square meters. Two thousand enterprises from China and 15 other countries and regions will demonstrate their products. Visitors will be able to see fruits, vegetables, grains and oilseeds, as well as aquatic products on the exhibition stands.

The Hainan Winter International Tropical Agricultural Products Fair is China's only tropical agricultural fair held during the cold season. It was first held in 1998 and has been held annually in this province ever since.

The PRC authorities pay close attention to the development of agriculture in the province of Hainan. Passion fruit, pitaya, coconut, pomelo, and many other tropical fruits are grown here. There are also opportunities for sea fishing, horticulture and cattle breeding on the island.
