Hainan's tourism revenues up by 260.1% in the first half of 2021

By 2025, the authorities intend to turn Hainan into an "international center for tourism and consumption"

HAIKOU, July 20. /TASS/. Hainan's tourism revenues for the first half of 2021 increased by 260.1% compared to the first half of 2020, exceeding 81.9 billion yuan (about $ 12.6 billion), according to data published on Tuesday the provincial statistics office.

Revenues for the first half of the year increased by 67.1% and compared to the figure for the same period in 2019. In January-June, according to official data, more than 43.2 million people visited this southern Chinese province. The growth of the corresponding indicator in annual terms amounted to 119.7%, and in comparison with the same period in 2019 —12%.

By 2025, the provincial authorities have set the goal of increasing the annual tourist flow on the Island of Hainan to 110 million people, and the total tourism revenues to 180 billion yuan (about $ 27.8 billion). The key areas of work will be, in particular, the development of car tourism along the Hainan ring road, ecotourism, the infrastructure of duty free shops, medical tourism, as well as improving the infrastructure of Hianan's major tourist attractions.

During the thirteenth five-year plan (2016-2020), Hainan received about 352 million Chinese and foreign tourists.
