EU duties on aluminum import to result in price growth — Rusal
The EU market highly depends on primary aluminum import, and local facilities cover just 25% of metal requirements, the company pointed out
MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. Introduction of duties on aluminum import in the European Union will automatically result in growth of its average market price and will affect competitiveness of high technology producers, press service of the Russian aluminum producer Rusal told TASS on Wednesday.
"Our position largely coincides with the position of the EU aluminum industry. We believe appearance of duties will affect in the first instance European processors of aluminum - the downstream sector, because the EU market highly depends on primary aluminum import, and local facilities cover just 25% of metal requirements," the company said.
The downstream segment is the key driver of added value creation in the EU aluminum industry, which accounts for 90% of total workforce in this sector, Rusal added.
