Tajikistan is of interest to Russia as the Tajik economy has huge potential and the trade turnover between the countries is on the rise, which is why we will be discussing the issues of cooperation, trade and mutual investment

DUSHANBE, June 23. /TASS/. Tajikistan’s economy has huge potential, and Moscow plans to discuss the issues of cooperation and mutual investment, Russian Economic Development Minister Maksim Reshetnikov who participates in the SCO economic forum being held in Dushanbe, told TASS on Wednesday.

"Tajikistan is of interest [to Russia] as the Tajik economy has huge potential and the trade turnover between the countries is on the rise, which is why we will be discussing the issues of cooperation, trade and mutual investment," he said. Russia and Tajikistan have intense contacts and there are issues also related to new projects with a range of problems that should be resolved, the minister said.

Moreover, projects connected with the Eurasian integration are efficiently developing now, he said, adding that it is necessary to explore integration of opportunities as part of them. "Russia actively establishes chains of cooperation, mainly industrial cooperation, and mutual investment, of course, under the framework of the Eurasian space and in cooperation with Tajik, Uzbek colleagues. Nothing supports economic growth and fortifies confidence better than mutual investment," Reshetnikov emphasized.

The SCO space accounts for 22% of global economy, whereas the aggregate GDP of SCO member-states amounts to $20 trillion, he said. "For Russia SCO is one of the most important trade partners as the trade turnover between Russia and SCO states totaled $145 bln in 2020, not the most successful year," the minister said, adding that the forum focuses on such issues as e-commerce, the development of digital ecosystems, including trade, services, goods movement, protection of copyright and patent rights.
