HAIKOU, June 11. /TASS/. Shenhai-1 drilling platform of China National Oil and Gas Marine Corporation (CNOOC) in the waters of China's Hainan will start working at the end of June and will provide 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas supplies annually, reported Xinhua.

According to the news agency, the energy carrier extracted on the shelf will be sold in the province itself, as well as in Hong Kong and Macau. It is expected that the reserves of offshore gas at the Lingshui 17-2 field, where drilling is underway, will be sufficient for many years: the deposits there, according to various estimates, range from 100 to 176 billion cubic meters.

The platform is located 150 km south of Hainan, the wells are located at a depth of 1.5 km. This floating storage facility sailed offshore from eastern Shandong on January, 14 and arrived at its destination in early February. All installation work was completed by the beginning of this month.

The Shenhai-1 deep-water semi-submersible floating platform was designed and built by China independently, without foreign support. Its service life is 150 years. The maximum storage capacity reaches 20,000 cubic meters.

According to official statistics, Hainan, together with sea areas, is about 2 million square kilometers, which is equivalent to the territory of Mexico. On the shelf of the South China Sea, there are huge reserves of hydrocarbons, the active development of which, as expected, will allow China to satisfy a significant share of domestic demand for energy resources.
