Non-degradable plastic banned at consumer products show in Haikou

Catering companies plan to use minimal packaging material

HAIKOU, May 6. /TASS/. The organizers of the first China International Consumer Products Show will ban the use of non-degradable plastic household items. The fair will be held on May 7-10 in Hainan's Haikou and will embody the idea of a "green exhibition", the Hainan Daily reported.

"During the EXPO, we will strictly adhere to the ban on the use of non-environmentally friendly plastics, if the markets have biodegradable raw materials, then the exhibitors should choose such materials,"  the newspaper quoted the head of the Hainan Hospitality and Restaurant Association Chen Heng.

According to him, in the catering area organized for the exhibitors, plastic dishes, tablecloths, garbage bags and other products will meet environmental standards. Catering companies plan to use minimal packaging material.

Over 1,200 companies from China and more than 600 enterprises from other countries will take part in the consumer products fair in Haikou. They will have at their disposal an exhibition area of 80,000 square meters with 20,000 square meters — for Chinese enterprises, and 60,000 square meters — for foreign ones.

Switzerland was chosen as the event's guest of honor. A number of countries, including Germany, Ireland, France, South Korea and Japan, will exhibit their national pavilions. The exposition will be divided into five main sections: fashion, jewelry and diamonds, high-quality food and health products, travel and tourism products, and comprehensive services.
