Worst economic scenario for EAEU countries during pandemic avoided, says Russian PM
ALMA-ATA, February 5. / TASS /. The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) were able to avoid the worst-case scenario for their economies during the pandemic; now it is important to ensure that the population is vaccinated against coronavirus in all countries of the union, said Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in an expanded format on Friday.
"Thanks to coordinated actions, we managed to prevent the worst scenario for the economies of our countries," he said, stressing that "the fight against coronavirus remains an important area" of joint activities of the five countries. "It is obvious that the decisive factor here will be the creation of opportunities for vaccination throughout the Union," Mishustin emphasized, adding Russia is ready to provide support to its partners in this area. He recalled that two vaccines against COVID-19 have already been registered in Russia and the third is being registered, and mass free vaccination has begun. Mishustin called for other measures to be taken to prevent the spread of infection and create conditions for safe passenger traffic within the union. He recalled the launch in pilot mode of the application "Traveling without COVID-19", which is now working in Russia, Armenia and Belarus. "We, of course, look forward to the expansion of this practice. I am sure that as a result of using the mobile application, people will be much more comfortable and quicker to return to normal life, they will also be able to go to work in another country and travel," Mishustin said. The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba have the status of observer states.
