Belarus, Russia may soon sign agreement on transshipment of goods via Russian ports
The Belarusian Prime Minister explained that the agreement will ensure that for Belarus the economic effect will be positive
MINSK, January 26. /TASS/. Belarus and Russia may in the near future conclude an intergovernmental agreement on the transshipment of Belarusian goods through Russian ports, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko told reporters on Tuesday. He was summing up the results of his talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
"We discussed the transportation of Belarusian goods, in particular, of oil products through the ports of Russia. This task was set by the President in connection with the well-known approaches of the Baltic countries towards Belarus and their unfriendly position. Therefore, we are implementing this task and in the near future we are planning to sign an appropriate intergovernmental agreement, that will ensure economic conditions for our traders, shippers, at least not worse than we had in the Baltic ports," Golovchenko said as quoted by BelTA.
The Belarusian Prime Minister explained that the agreement between the departments (of Belarus and the Russian Federation - TASS) will ensure that for Belarus the economic effect will be positive.
In November last year, the Russian government reported that Russian Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak and Alexey Overchuk discussed with their Belarusian counterpart Yuri Nazarov online the prospects for interaction in the fuel and energy complex and the supply of hydrocarbons in 2021.
The parties noted the focus on long-term relations in the field of oil and gas supplies to the republic. The press service of the Belarusian Cabinet of Ministers noted that the issue of exporting Belarusian oil products through the infrastructure of the Russian Federation was also discussed.
Earlier it was reported that Russia and Belarus began to study the issue of redirecting the supply of oil products from the ports of Lithuania to the Russian Federation because of the statements of the Lithuanian side in connection with the political situation in Belarus. Novak noted that the volume of redirected deliveries of oil products from Lithuanian ports to the Russian Federation may amount to 4-6 million tonnes.
