Yamal hopes to begin fish export within 2021
The region has about 750 fishing areas, where more than 10,000 tonnes of fish is produced annually
TASS, January 18. The Yamalo-Nenets Region hopes to begin export of fish products to Belarus and Kazakhstan before end of 2021, the regional agricultural authority’s press service told TASS on Monday.
The region has about 750 fishing areas, where more than 10,000 tonnes of fish is produced annually. The region’s processing plants make more than 200 fish products.
"We continue the formalities, which began in 2020, to license the Salekhard Plant to export fish products within the Customs Union," the press service said. "As soon as we receive necessary documents, we will offer fish products to Kazakhstan and Belarus."
According to the press service, the export potential of deeply processed fish is estimated at 240 tonnes (1 million tins).
The region will export ecology clean wild fish once the Salekhard Plant is licensed to work within the Customs Union.
The Salekhard Plant is the biggest fish processing company in the region, which produces more than 60 types of tins, and 90 types of fish products, smoked, dried or salted fish, and pre-packaged meals. Every year, the company processes more than 6,000 tonnes of fish and makes about 4 million tins.
