Almost a million tourists visit Hainan over the 'golden week' in China

By 2025, the Chinese government intends to create an "international center for tourism and consumption" on Hainan

HAINAN, October 10. /TASS/. Hainan's administrative center, Haikou, received 956,000 tourists during the "golden week" — national holidays marking the Foundation of the People's Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival (October 1-8), reported the Hainan Daily.

Tourist flow in Haikou over the long weekend in October increased by 12.65% year-on-year. The city's tourism industry revenue for those eight days reached 1.3 billion yuan (approximately $193 million), 16.31% higher than the year before.

According to Wang Zhulong who serves as a party secretary of the Haikou Tourism, Culture, Radio, Film and Sports Administration, these figures "are delightful and demonstrate the enormous potential of the city's tourism market." He also noted that according to the Chinese online travel platform Fliggy, Haikou is a "dark horse" in the Chinese tourism market and is one of the ten most popular destinations for tourists in the country.

The official added that Haikou will continue to make efforts to grow from a "dark horse" to a "splendid stud" in the industry.

By 2025, the Chinese government intends to create an "international center for tourism and consumption" on Hainan. In order to do so, the "Eastern Hawaii" with their unique natural landscapes, thick rainforests and great climate will establish a developed network of hotels, which blend perfectly with white sandy beaches stretching along the coastline. The combination of an exotic subtropical nature and a modern eco-friendly infrastructure will boost tourist inflow to the island from the most distant parts of the world.
