China allocates $ 46 mln to Hainan from state environmental fund
According to the Chinese government's plan, the funding will contribute to the creation of an oceanic eco-culture on the tropical island
HAIKOU, July 11. /TASS/. The Chinese Ministry of Finance allocated 325.7 million yuan (about $ 46 million) from the state fund for the protection and restoration of the ecological environment of the ocean to Hainan, reported the Hainan Daily newspaper.
About 203.5 million yuan (about $ 29 million) was allocated from the Blue Bay fund — the money will be used to comprehensively better the ocean environment of the island province. The rest, approximately 122.2 million yuan (about $ 17 million), is intended to restore the Hainan coastal strip. In particular, in the draft the authorities paid special attention to mangrove forests' preservation.
According to the Chinese government's plan, the funding will contribute to the creation of an oceanic eco-culture on the tropical island. Currently the local administration needs to distribute the work between coastal cities and counties and choose the contractors, the publication writes.
The Hainan authorities are paying increased attention to the region's ecology. In particular, they plan to create marine stations for environmental monitoring of water conditions there and to build four waste incineration plants. In 2020, the provincial leadership intends to build water treatment plants in cities, villages and ports, as well as create marine sanitary zones in coastal areas to tackle the ocean's pollution. Moreover, the government plans to restore mangroves on an area of 280 hectares.
To the year 2030 with no gas
In order to combat environment pollution and protect ecology, the Hainan authorities intend to completely stop selling cars with conventional gasoline and diesel engines on the island by 2030. For these purposes, the government will encourage the residents to buy electric vehicles and hybrids, as well as develop the infrastructure necessary for them.
Starting from August 1, 2018, the authorities have already introduced a special quota for obtaining state-standard numbers for ordinary types of vehicles. Meanwhile, according to the last year's data, there were more than 23,000 "green" cars registered on Hainan, which is about 1.8% of the total number of cars on the island. In order to service eco-friendly vehicles there are more than 4.600 charging stationins in the province.
Since 2019, according to the authorities, all companies and state-owned enterprises on the island are committed to switching to "green" cars. By 2030, they plan to install about 940,000 spots for recharging electric and hybrid cars on the island.
