Hainan's Meilan airport eyes launching flights with Russia's Omsk

The number of flights to Russia's Novosibirsk will also be increased

HAKOU, October 25. /TASS/. Hainan's international Meilan airport intends to launch flights to Russia's Omsk, Hainan Daily newspaper reported. 

According to the newspaper, Haikou's airport carries out flights to 129 airports in China and worldwide. Five more destinations are expected to be added to the list in the upcoming winter and spring: the new Beijing airport, Daxing, Qingyang (Gansu Province), Ulan Hot (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region), Naypyidaw (the capital of Myanmar) and Omsk. 

Starting from October 27, 2019 and through to March 28, 2020 the authorities plan to operate 5 654 flights which is by 6.56% higher than the previous year's figures. Moreover, the airport's administration announced that there would be more flights to Changsha, Chongqing, Guiyang, Qingdao, Xian, Wuhan and Nanning. The same thing stands for international flights South Korea's Busan, Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, Naypyidaw, Omsk and Novosibirsk. 

Meilan International Airport was opened in 1999, it is the largest airport on the Island of Hainan. In 2018, airport passenger traffic grew by 6,81% in annual terms and reached 24,12 million people.

Work on the second phase of Meilan Airport's terminals construction began in November 2015. After commissioning the second terminal, the airport's passenger flow is expected to reach 35 million passengers by 2025.

In 2018, airport passenger traffic grew by 6.81% YoY reaching 24.12 million people. By mid-December 2019, the administration plans to complete the construction of the airport's second terminal and lay another 3.6 km take-off runway, thus, the airport will be able to receive the largest aircraft in the world. The airport also intends to increase the number of parking spots, to constcuct a convenient highway junction.
