Hainan authorities to help Russian travel agencies get access to China’s market

In order to increase the tourist flow from Russia, the authorities of the region are planning to establish a special institution

HAIKOU, June 6. /TASS/. The Hainan authorities will support Russian travel agencies with entering the Chinese market, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Liu Cigui told TASS. According to the politician, the tourist flow from Russia to this region is growing annually, and this trend will continue.

"We will continue to better the level of tourist products and services we provide, increase the number of direct flights, and do our best to meet the needs of Russian tourists. The provincial authorities will help Russia's best travel agencies to enter the Chinese and global markets," he said.

As Liu Cigui emphasized, "Russia is the most important source [of inflow] of foreign tourists for Hainan." "In 2017, a record number of 284, 000 Russians visited our resorts. Currently, there are 11 international flights between Russian cities and Sanya. The prospects for the development of cooperation and exchanges are still very broad," he added.

In order to increase the tourist flow from Russia, the authorities of the region are planning to establish a special institution - the Consultative Committee for the development and maintenance of the Russian tourist market - and to invite big Russian travel agencies. "This will support the internationalization of the tourism sector of the province, and will also contribute to the development of inbound tourism on the Hainan Island and its recognition in Russian-speaking countries," he pointed out. In addition, according to Liu Cigui, Hainan intends to send a delegation to participate in the Moscow International Tourism Exhibition, recreational exhibitions and other important events to promote its services in this area.

Interregional cooperation

Moreover, Hainan relies on the development of cooperation between the regions of Russia and China, and with sister cities. "The Hainan Province signed protocols of intent with the Murmansk, Vladimir and Kaliningrad regions, as well as with St. Petersburg. In 2011, Sanya and Khabarovsk became twin cities. In 2016, Qionghai signed a letter of intent with the city of Domodedovo," Liu Cigui reminded. "This has created a good basis for cooperation between the two countries," said the Secretary of Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

"This year has been declared by the leaders of our countries - Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin - a year of regional cooperation," he added, noting that the Chinese President is currently on a state visit to Russia. "We are confident that the visit of the head of state will be fruitful, and that it will also present new historical opportunities for deepening cooperation between China and Russia," said Liu Cigui.

According to the Chinese official, "at the next stage, both sides should take measures to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of Russia and China, deepen cooperation on regional level, use the strengths of individual regions, promote exchanges to boost growth."
